What strategy can language learners use to study for a test? There are many strategies but today I will give you one of mine. It will help you with your grammar, reading and comprehension ability.
Research shows that grammar and reading ability are important for a second language learner to do well in a Second Language Test. Comprehension is also very important as well as how well your brain stores and retrieves language processes.
Try this learning strategy:
- Read one page (magazine, online news, a blog, a book etc).
- Read something interesting to you.
- Write the main points as you are reading.
- Think about the meaning of the text.
- Write one or two summary paragraphs.
- Take your time! Show that you understand what you have read in your writing.
- Think more about the story. Edit your first draft to show a deeper understanding of the text.
- Read what you have written out aloud. Does it sound okay to you?
- You can edit your writing many times until you feel comfortable with it.
- When you have finished writing, check for spelling mistakes and grammar errors three times.
- If possible, ask someone to check it for you.
- If possible, do with a friend and share your stories.
- Do once or twice a week. Be great at learning English and write every day!
I would love to hear your experience with this strategy. Did you enjoy doing it? Do you have any questions? I hope it helps you.
Do your best!
